Auckland to Host the Fifth Annual New Zealand Asia Pacific Film Festival

AUCKLAND, October 5, 2017 - Auckland will host the best of Asia Pacific film-making this month, with the fifth annual New Zealand Asia Pacific Film Festival, held at SKYCITY Theatre.

The New Zealand Asia Pacific Film Festival Committee today announced the Festival's grand opening will be held Saturday, October 28th. The Festival brings together a selection of films from China, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, India and beyond.

The red carpet opening on October 28th will bring together film industry luminaries from participating countries. Running through to October 31, this year's line-up includes six feature films from Asia Pacific, including two premiere films from New Zealand and China.

The films include ‘Into the Rainbow’, the first New Zealand and China co-production film, the global premiere of ‘Great Grassland’ (China), ‘SAMURAI HUSTLE RETURNS’ (Japan), The King of Jokgu’(Korea), and ‘Tikli and Laxmi Bomb’ (India), shot in India, telling the story of a poor country girls life in the red light district.

The festival also features "Korea Session" and "Japan Session" themed events, featuring not only the filmmaking craft of each country but also other cultural elements such as music and dance.

"Over the past four years, the New Zealand Asia Pacific Film Festival has established a unique reputation in the film industry locally and overseas. It has become one of the most influential annual Asian cultural events in New Zealand, receiving strong, positive public support."

The festival is designed to promote Asian cultures in New Zealand, empower the development of the film industry in the Asia Pacific region and promote international cultural exchanges and co-operation, so that Auckland can become a more inclusive and multi-cultural society.
