Motutapu Restoration Trust is hosting a: Picnic at Motutapu Auckland Heritage Festival
Sunday 15 October, 2017 9:15-4:50pm
Re-create the Premier Picnics of the early 1900’s.
Bring your family and a picnic lunch and join us in playing croquet, tug of war, egg and spoon races, and other traditional games on the lawn of the Reid Homestead.
Hear stories of the huge picnics held for many different groups such as the Manchester Unity Oddfellows, Sunday School children, Smith and Caughey staff, Fruitgrowers Assoc, and Butchers !
Learn about the wreck of the paddlesteamer Emu in October 1860 with eighty per cent of New Zealand’s parliamentarians on board, including future Prime Ministers!
Come for a walk, maybe spotting endangered birds, explore the WWII gun battery emplacements and enjoy spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf.
