Mainland Titles Go Down to the Wire in Christchurch This Weekend
Class placings are again going down to the wire in this year's Mainland Series as karters from across the South Island
head to Christchurch today for the KartSport Canterbury club's two-day Garden City Communications-sponsored Garden City
Championships meeting at Christchurch's Carrs Road Raceway.
It's closest in the Rotax Heavy class where Kevin Barker from Nelson leads Andrew Downs from Greymouth, Ian Carter from
Dunedin and another Nelson driver, Daryl Wehner.
There is also little in it in Rotax Junior where Christchurch's Zac Christensen leads Logan Thompson from Invercargill
and Dominic Robertson from Christchurch.
The situation is a little more clear-cut as far as the competition amongst participating clubs (for the Interclub Cup)
is concerned with KartSport Canterbury a clear leader over KartSport Nelson, KartSport Southland, KartSport Greymouth
and KartSport Dunedin.
The Garden City meeting has attracted a 60+ entry across six classes with an impressive 13 in Vortex Mini ROK, 12 in
Cadet ROK and 10 in Rotax Max Light.
As well as placings and Mainland Series points up for grabs, there are two V8 Superdrive prizes on offer (one for a
Senior, one for a Junior competitor) and a draw for a set of Dunlop tyres.
There will be action on track both days, with free entry for spectators to the Carrs Rd track which is situated on the
corner of Carrs Rd and Wigram Rd in Halswell.
