Hui offers writers and illustrators chance to pitch slam

Media Release

Storylines Hui offers writers and illustrators chance to pitch slam to top agents and publishers.

Friday 6 October to Sunday 8 October, 2017

More than a hundred of New Zealand’s leading children’s writers and illustrators are meeting in Auckland on the weekend of 6-8 October for the biennial Storylines National Children's Writers and Illustrators' Hui being held at King’s School, Remuera.

Among the presenters are internationally acclaimed Kiwi authors Joy Cowley, Kate De Goldi, Stacy Gregg and Brian Falkner, and illustrators Gavin Bishop, Donovan Bixley and David Elliot.

There will also be two pitch slam sessions where an author or illustrator can take up to five minutes to pitch their idea to an author or an agent.

International literary agents Pippa Masson (Australia) and Kendra Marcus (USA) will be attending the hui as guests of Creative New Zealand’s Te Manu Ka Tau: Flying Friends international delegates programme and will meet authors and illustrators pitching book proposals as prospective clients. They are also offering a limited number of extended meetings to selected registrants.

The full two and a half day programme for all delegates includes keynote speeches by Tessa Duder on The rise and rise of children’s publishing in New Zealand, Brian Falkner on My big fat international success - and other unnatural disasters and David Hill on The wonder of the blunder: celebrating setbacks and slip-ups.
