Mocktober at the Classic

It’s spring. It’s our 20th birthday. It’s time to revivify at the home of live comedy.

The Classic, NZ’s home of live comedy wraps up their 20th year at 321 Queen St with Mocktober, a month of it featuring a combination of legends, rising stars, new faces and even the rookies.

The theme of the month is REVIVIFY and throughout Mocktober the comedians, industry and staff will be working together to raise funds to revivify their home. Key objectives are the renovation of all toilets, service areas, the stage, paintwork, carpets bars and signage. “It’s won’t be a TV makeover” says director Scott Blanks, “it is a refresh with a Classic twist of one of the most iconic comedy brands in New Zealand”.

Mocktober kicks off with Raw Comedy on Mondays hosted by some of the legends of the local game who will return to their roots on the weekly open mic. The first gig on Oct 2nd will be hosted by Paul Ego, who was a finalist in the very first Raw Comedy Quest back in 1996. Our other Mocktober Raw hosts are Michele A’Court (Oct 9th), Jeremy Corbett (Oct 16th) and Urzila Carlson (Oct 30th). Urzila was a finalist in the Raw Comedy Quest in 2008. For these comedy legends it is a rare opportunity to see what is happening at the grass roots level of the local comedy scene as well as a chance for the rookies to get some invaluable feedback from our most experienced performers.
Another highlight of Mocktober will be the Revivify Premium Pro Nights on Thursday Oct 5, 19 and 26. Each week an all-star line-up of up to 10 Pro Comedians will waive their fees and all the box office will be transferred to the Classic’s Revivify Fund potentially raising up to $3000 each week. This is a great opportunity for local fans of The Classic to donate to the fund while enjoying over 2 hours of premium stand-up comedy.

Other local heroes will be checking in to The Classic in Mocktober, with rare performances from some of our A-list comedians including Michele A’Court, Dai Henwood, Ben Hurley, Paul Ego, Urzila Carlson and more who will join the rising stars and regular favourites at The Classic.

And on Labour Weekend The Classic will once again host New Pro’s Special, its annual line-up of the best new pro’s to join the circuit during the 20th year, maybe ones to watch over the next 20 years. In an added twist, comedy duo The Fan Brigade, one of the hottest new pro-acts at The Classic, will host the show.
