NZ Music Video Directors Directory Now Available at NZMusician.co.nz
NZMusician.co.nz is pleased to announce the addition of another super helpful tool for New Zealand musicians, a new online Music Video Directors directory.

Five times a year NZ On Air announces New Music Single recording and Video funding for as many as 25 new tracks – many for relatively new acts who haven’t yet had the chance to work with a professional video director or make a quality music video.

Now there’s a comprehensive free database of experienced and active local music video makers, that includes full contact details plus links to some of their most recent work. The directory listings also provide directors with the chance to identify any particular areas of specialisation.

Launching with almost 50 experienced local (plus one London-based) music video directors, this handy guide can be found under ‘Directories’ – ‘Music Video Directors’ at www.NZMusician.co.nz.

“Providing local artists with an up-to-date Music Video Directors directory is something we’ve been wanting to do for a while,” says David Ridler, NZ On Air’s Head of Music.

“So I’m really pleased NZ On Air can partner with NZ Musician – the home of NZ music directories! – to provide a new service that will hopefully make life easier, and more efficient for musicians and video makers alike. I look forward to seeing the results of the new collaborations that will spring from this service!"

Of course this new directory is available for all musicians to utilise and connect with video makers, whether they have an NZ On Air-funded track or not. Similarly, experienced directors who are not already included in this handy new directory are encouraged to contact NZ Musician.

Feature Length Documentary On New Zealand Indie Legends 'The Chills' Confirmed for 2019
The film chronicles band leader Martin Phillipps’ unyielding pursuit of music in the face of tenuous fame, depression and addiction. This is a dramatic story of triumph over tragedy, of music’s importance in our lives and of a gifted artist’s personal sacrifice.

Congratulations to all the winners at the 10th annual Waiata Maori Music Awards, which were celebrated on Friday 15 September in fine style in Hastings. Singer and songwriter Maisey Rika won four of the prizes: Best Traditional Māori Album (Te Reo Māori), Best Māori Female Solo Artist, Best Song by a Māori Artist Award and the Best Māori Songwriter Award. Musician and actor Troy Kingi won awards for Best Māori Pop Artist and the Best Māori Male Solo Artist Award. See here for all winners.

Apple Music App For Android
Apple Music’s app for Android comes with a plethora of new features set to keep users in connection heaven.

These include support for voice commands, and the ability to create a user profile which allows users to alert friends what music they’re listening to, while also tuning into what’s turning them on.

By pressing the appropriate button and saying “OK Google”, the app kicks in the streaming service and locate the album, artist or track.

There’s also a shortcut to accessing Beats 1 and the “Recently Played” widget on the home screen.

It can also be downloaded from the Google Play Store once it’s been rolled out to the iOS and desktop platforms.

Last April, additions to the Android app also included song lyrics as the track played.

iOS users can use the new features by updating to iOS 11.

The App Store gets an overhaul that includes a look similar to Apple Music and a Today app to updates its app picks daily.

L.A.B Release First Single and Announce Debut Album Release Date
Out November 24 and available for pre-order now digitally and on limited edition double LP is the debut self-titled album from L.A.B.. The latest project from Brad & Stu Kora, Joel Shadbolt and Ara Adams-Tamatea (Katchafire), their debut album showcases the incredible talent that has seen the band become one a fan favourite on the New Zealand live circuit.

L.A.B. have spent over three years making their name on the live circuit in both New Zealand and Australia, and their debut album is a result of countless sets honing their material. Written across Whakatane and Tauranga, the album has been recorded across week-long stints at Wellington’s Surgery Studios with Dr Lee Prebble (The Black Seeds, Fly My Pretties, TrintyRoots).

The two-headed production team of Prebble and Brad Kora combined not only the eclectic sounds but the eclectic influences to create the L.A.B. sound. With Kora as the main driving force, his brother Stu, Shadbolt and Adams-Tamatea would then come in and individually add their own character and colour to the recording process.

Across all 12 tracks, L.A.B. shows an act with a strong sense of their own voice and sound, and all its different aspects. Family is a theme which runs throughout L.A.B.. Themes of loved ones falling in with the wrong crowd crop up multiple times, however the prevailing theme is the power of family, and the fragility of these relationships. The four members are all one family, and this is a piece of work which is a tribute to their individual families.

Over one hour long, L.A.B. is an album which wears its influences unapologetically on its sleeves, and has created an eclectic sound. It is an album which showcases four incredibly talented and experienced musicians combining in a unique way, taking all the elements of their separate musical lives, throwing them into a blender, and resulting in a listen which is unlike anything that has come before.
