Broadcaster David Beatson Dies
David Beatson notable broadcaster, journalist and businessman has died yesterday evening after a long illness.
His career spans newspaper, magazine, radio and television journalism, current affairs, senior executive and board positions across television and radio broadcasting, print publishing, tourism and aviation, and information communications technology sectors and involvement in the development of media policies, legislation, regulations, ethics and codes of practice.
At various times he was a senior current affairs host for some of New Zealand’s most influential television programmes and a presenter and interviewer on both radio and television.
His career includes Editor of the Listener, Chairman of New Zealand on Air, Chief Press Secretary for Prime Minister Jim Bolger, Deputy Chief Executive of New Zealand Tourism and Chairman of the 2000 Taskforce which organised New Zealand’s Millennium Celebrations and Air New Zealand Vice president – Government, International & Public Affairs
His life is celebrated by his wife Lesley, 2 children, 3 stepchildren and 11 grandchildren.
