Stars Everywhere at Starship Thanks to Little Garden
There are stars everywhere at Starship thanks to Little Garden
Today the team at New World has really kicked things up a notch, aiming to triple the amount raised through Little Garden last year, with this year’s Little Starflower for Starship. The Starflower (also known as Borage) is available today for a limited time for $1 at New World – with all proceeds going to the Starship Foundation.
Jen Mariu, Brand & Sponsorship Manager Foodstuffs NZ Ltd says, “We have 150,000 Starflowers for sale and, given the response we had last year, we’re expecting them to sell out super quick. It’s just one of the ways we raise money for New Zealand’s national children’s hospital in our role as a Five-Star Sponsor of the Starship Foundation. We are looking forward to handing over a sizeable donation to the team who works so hard to care for young New Zealanders and their families.”
But, there’s even more fun on tap. The Little Garden campaign has a cool education programme for primary schools. Hundreds of schools have received special kits to teach children how important bees and butterflies are to growing good, fresh food. And the kids at Starship School had a special visit from the Little Garden team so they could be part of the fun too.
“First we had the class learn about bees and how hard they work. Then we got together with The Hits Breakfast team; Toni, Sam and Sarah, and Jason Kerrison and Jason Fa’afoi who helped the Starship students take what they learned and turn it into a performance in the first ever Stars of Starship show,” says Mariu. “They had the time of their lives in class and then got the chance to showcase their talents and what they had learned. We even had a golden buzzer moment!”
New World has been a Five Star Sponsor of the Starship Foundation since 2014. Its ongoing support for Starship continues to make a real difference to so many New Zealand families. This year the Starship Starflower and Stars of Starship have given another opportunity to bring a little bit of joy and much needed funds for patients and families at the national children’s hospital.
Brad Clark, Chief Executive for the Starship Foundation says, “We are so excited about the 2017 Little Garden Starflower for Starship fundraiser and are extremely grateful to New World and their customers who are so willing to help ensure that our national children’s hospital, Starship, can provide world-class health care for our children and young people from all over New Zealand, when they need it most.”
“The Little Starflower is a great addition to the other 23 Little Garden Collectibles and we really want to encourage our customers to come in-store and pick up the Starflower. For only $1 with all funds going to the Starship Foundation, we have the ability to make a real difference to our littlest, most-in-need New Zealanders,” says Mariu.
