Wellington Young Actors (Juniors) the capital’s youngest theatre company, is to perform Lewis Carroll’s Alice and Wonderland and Falling by New Zealand’s Angie Farrow.

Wellington Young Actors (Juniors) are a company of 11-14 year olds from across Wellington who come together to train in theatre in Island Bay. The are using this project to learn how to run their own theatre company which includes covering all the production roles. As well as acting, the young company must take on all production roles such as costume design, publicity and management.

Alice in Wonderland is a very fun and happy play and is for all ages. It is very colourful and includes elements of shadow puppetry. Alice is searching for an exit of this wonderland, filled with lots of obstacles and possibly some new friends.

Aimed at teenagers and above, Falling combines elements of clowning and physical theatre. Renowned New Zealand playwright Angie Farrow was inspired by neuroplasticity and a condition which gives the constant feeling of falling. Falling follows Holly who is seeking for a reason to live, as she is plagued with falling over and over.

Local actor and director, Deborah Eve Rea, is mentoring the students through the process. It has served as a fun flashback for Rea who performed in Falling herself during a national tour of Angie Farrow plays six years ago.
