Internationally renowned producers heading to New Zealand to collaborate with music industry professionals
Recorded Music NZ Presents the New Zealand Music Producer Series
The second New Zealand Music Producer Series (NZMPS) is returning to Auckland in October with two internationally
renowned producers set to pass on their knowledge to New Zealand recording industry professionals.
Producers David Wrench (The xx, Frank Ocean) and Romesh Dodangoda (Motörhead, Bring Me The Horizon) will run a series of
recording and mixing workshops at Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studios. Participants will also get one-on-one mentoring
sessions at SAE Auckland to discuss projects and career goals.
David Wrench is a Welsh producer and engineer who has also worked with FKA Twigs, Sampha, Goldfrapp, Hot Chip, Jungle,
Glass Animals, White Lies, Bloc Party, Chet Faker, Blossoms and Caribou. He has mixed four of the albums nominated for
the 2017 Mercury Music Prize and won Mix Engineer of the Year at the 2016 Music Producers Guild Awards.
“I'm very excited about my first trip to New Zealand. I've been hearing a lot about how vibrant the music scene is there
right now and am very much looking forward to working with some new artists,” he says.
Romesh Dodangoda is a producer and mixer who has worked in the industry for 17 years with a focus on rock, pop and
metal. He owns and operates Long Wave Studios in Cardiff. Along with Motörhead and Bring Me The Horizon he has worked
with a host of artists including Funeral for a Friend, Twin Atlantic, Bullet for My Valentine, Lower Than Atlantis,
Sylosis and Monuments. His recent work includes mixing Bring Me the Horizon’s ‘Live at the Royal Albert Hall’ release
which included a full orchestra and choir.
“I’m incredibly excited to be coming over for the New Zealand Music Producer Series. I’m really looking forward to
meeting everyone who’s attending the masterclass and showing them how I approach production, recording and mixing, in
great detail, from start to finish,” he says.
Both Wrench and Dodangoda will host a discussion at Recorded Music NZ about their careers, followed by a Q session that’s free and open to the public – on 30 October and 6 November, respectively.
NZMPS curator and producer Greg Haver says that after the success of the first event in January 2017, it is important to
follow up and bring a fresh round of recording industry experts to New Zealand.
“It was amazing having Guy Massey and Dave Eringa here earlier in the year and to see them working with an extremely
talented group of producers, recording engineers and musicians.”
Recorded Music CEO Damian Vaughan says being part of the NZMPS is a great opportunity for interested individuals to get
some real hands-on experience with masters of their craft.
“Every day we see the most talented musicians in the country creating unique and innovative tracks. Giving them the
chance to speak with and learn from experts with the range of experience that David and Romesh have is not only a
learning experience – but deeply inspiring.
“It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of and we hope those who get involved find it rewarding for themselves and their
careers.”
With support from Recorded Music NZ, APRA AMCOS and SAE Auckland, the NZMPS will run from 30 October to 10 November
2017.
Each seminar includes:
• A three-day workshop with the selected producer at Roundhead Studios.
• A one-on-one session to discuss personal projects.
