XVI Latin America & Spain Film Festival
The Latin America and Spain Film Festival (LASFF) returns to New Zealand for its 16th edition.
Wellington, August 2017. – Aotearoa New Zealand is about to embrace Hispanic culture once again, with the 16th edition of the Latin America and Spain Film Festival.
This free event will run from September to November and is expanding with as many as 12 different host cities this year: Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Queenstown, Taupo, Upper Hutt, Waiheke Island, Wellington and Whanganui. The support of local communities, including various Latin American & Spanish groups, has been significant in bringing about this growth.
LASFF is an annual non-profit cultural event presented and organized by the Embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico and Spain in New Zealand; and by the Embassies of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, in Australia.
An especially selected collection of 11 films in a wide range of categories will be presented, with the main goal being to bring New Zealand’s audience closer to the history, culture and social developments of Latin America and Spain, through the work of each country’s fascinating local film industry.
LASFF’s organizing committee invites everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand to enjoy this opportunity and to take a step towards Latin America and Spain. We are confident that the next step could hopefully be visiting one or more of our group of nations, united by language, but with very diverse and rich cultures.
A special thanks to our sponsors, in particular to the Wellington City Council, Te Papa Museum, AirNZ, Havana Coffee Works, Language Links, ILEP, Andes, Patagonia, La Bodega, Limousine South, Fluid, Mountain Scene, Lakes Weekly Bulletin, Soul Marita, Radio Mia, Language Connect, Mana Coach Services, the Patron and Corona, whose contribution has been invaluable in bringing this event to fruition.
