Finally K-Culture Festival Comes to Town
Come and enjoy the flavours of Korean food as well as a sample of Korean culture and K-Pop at the 2017 K-Culture
Festival on Saturday 2 September from 11:30am to 4:00pm at Shed 6 on Wellington’s waterfront.
Entry is free for the festival co-organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Wellington City Council and
Wellington Korean Association. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, so bring your friends and family to enjoy
a variety of traditional and contemporary performances including finals of the NZ K-Pop festival as well as Korean old
pastimes and cuisine (Hanshik).
In its third year, the K-Culture festival presents a number of new performances including a Taekwondo demonstration by
Kumgang Taekwondo Performance Team, Korean percussion music by Madang Hannuri Samulnori team who will perform cheerful
traditional Korean tunes to get your feet tapping as well. The Wellington Korean School and the Street Candy company
will also present you a charming puppet dance and powerful K-pop dance.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr Seung-bae Yeo says, “Korea and New Zealand share an excellent relationship
in all areas from trade and government through to arts and culture”. Ambassador Yeo says that next February is the great
time to visit Korea and encourages people to learn more about the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.
Wellington Mayor Justin Lester says “Wellington City Council is thrilled to support this event, where Wellingtonians and
visitors alike can come together to enjoy the cultural and culinary delights of Asia’s number one trendsetter, South
Korea”
