Celebrate Italian Culture as The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florenceopens this weekend at Auckland Art Gallery
The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florence opens this Saturday 2 September at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki with a stimulating programme of special Italian events, including many just for Father’s Day.
Drawn from the extensive private art collection of the eminent Corsini family in Florence, Italy, the exhibition features Renaissance and Baroque painting by renowned artists such as Botticelli, Caravaggio, Andrea del Sarto, Pontormo and Tintoretto.
Auckland Art Gallery Director Rhana Devenport says it is a privilege to bring this remarkable collection to New Zealand.
‘Our audiences will love the opulent history of The Corsini Collection, a family made famous by great ancestors such as Saint Andrew and Pope Clement XII.’
Devenport will be hosting special guests from the Corsini family, Contessa Elisabetta Minutoli Tegrimi and Contessa Livia Sanminiatelli Branca in conversation with the Italian ambassador to New Zealand, Fabrizio Marcelli, this Saturday 2 September at 1pm.
‘Enjoy a family day out and delight in the sounds of Italian classical harpsichord and flute performances, and indulge in Italian coffee and fresh pasta demonstrations. This weekend is the start of months of celebration of Italian culture,’ says Devenport.
Paintings, as well as sculpture, works on paper, furniture, costumes, and a lavish dining room set for six, which have been preserved over the centuries, will portray the life of this family at the Palazzo Corsini.
