Coast – A short Sweetshop film
Coast is a short film about a young woman in a desperate situation finding unexpected compassion in a small coastal town. The film has been produced as a part of the Someday Stories series of films by young New Zealand film-makers.
Alistair MacDonald, an emerging New Zealand filmmaker wrote and directed the short film whilst working as a directors assistant at a global production company. The film was produced by Sophia Seaton, and up and coming producer who has a number of other works in progress with various directors. The director of photography, Dave Garbett, shot the film in weekends between filming for US series Ash Vs Evil Dead.
The film features both experienced and up and coming talent. Donogh Rees (Shortland St, Xena, Power Rangers, and many more) stars alongside Roxie Mohebbi in her debut film performance.
Coast was shot in Whitianga and the Thames Coast over 3 and a half days with cast, crew, and locals all working for next to nothing to help get the film made.
Someday Stories is produced by Connected Media with support from NZ On Air, the New Zealand Film Commission and The Body Shop New Zealand in association with The Wireless, Māori Television and Thecoconet.tv
