Show stopping students secure finals spots
Next week any one of these artists could be the new Lorde.
These performers and songbirds have soared their way above 700 hopefuls to perform in the final of Auckland Council’s
Stand Up Stand Out (SUSO).
The event, in its 13th year, showcases the best of high school talent in music and dance.
Aorere and Manurewa Colleges have emerged as standout contenders this year with both schools fielding students as
finalists in all five categories; solo vocal, group vocal, solo instrumental, band and dance.
Returning for his second year as a finalist is St Paul’s College solo vocalist Selevasio Tu’ima, while back for their
third year running is band Jubilee with singer Irene Folau and musician Soakai Malamala who will also appear in the solo
vocalist and solo instrumental categories.
Head judge, Cherie Mathieson, is thrilled by the scale of the event, “Having had the luxury of attending eight years ago
I’m blown away by the unbelievable level of talent on show. It takes courage to get up and perform. This opportunity is
invaluable and the stepping stone to entering the music industry.”
The final is on Saturday 2nd September at Vodafone Events Centre beginning at 1.00pm.
