SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open launched.
The SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open has been launched in style today at Auckland’s brand new Chinese restaurant
Huami, the latest addition to SKYCITY’s award winning Federal Street dining precinct.
After an official welcome from Badminton New Zealand board member Danny Chan, players and officials from many of the 18
nations competing were able to sample some of the delicious cuisine on offer at Huami, and were also treated to a bit of
entertainment in the kitchen.
Women’s top seed Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) and men’s top seed Tzu Wei Wang (Chinese Taipei) were among those
challenged to down their racquets and try their hand at making dim sums, a challenge that was readily accepted.
Under the expert guidance of Executive Chef Jeff Tan, the pair made a good fist of the culinary test, but will no doubt
be more comfortable on the badminton court for the rest of the week.
The SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open is now underway with the qualifying rounds currently on court, and the first
round of the men’s singles to follow this afternoon.
The Barfoot and Thompson match of the day features 10th seed Wei Nan (Hong Kong) versus Chun Wei-Chen (Chinese Taipei)
at 6:40pm.
