To mark the broadcast of MTV Australia and New Zealand’s first ever MTV UNPLUGGED, MTV has searched the Unplugged archives to bring audiences a throwback week of some of the most memorable performances from the past 25 years, featuring artists like Nirvana, The Cure, Oasis, and Aerosmith.
MTV UNPLUGGED first made its debut on the music scene in 1989 and quickly became a cultural icon, bringing fans unforgettable performances from artists such as Miley Cyrus, Eric Clapton, Jay Z, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, KISS, Elton John, George Michael and Bruce Springsteen.
This Sunday August 6 at 8.30pm, MTV Australia and New Zealand will air its first ever locally-produced Unplugged featuring New Zealand artist MAALA.
Over the past two years, MAALA aka Evan Sinton has risen from a little known Kiwi enigma to garnering near instant acclaim on the world stage. His first single 'Touch'reached #2 on the Alternative Airplay charts and accumulated over 2.7 million streams on Spotify. From there he released his 2015 MAALA EP, which reached top 5 on the iTunes charts, #3 NZ top 40 and has accumulated over five million streams to date as well as a sold out EP release show. All this from a guy of just 22.
