Success Returns to Auckland
Click-Clack Productions presents:
SUCCESS
Written and directed by Stephen Sinclair
SUCCESS by Stephen Sinclair, writer of such hits as The Bach, The Sex Fiend and Ladies Night, returns to Auckland this August. A comedy-drama about friendship, rivalry and redemption, SUCCESS plays at The Classic Comedy Club 23rd – 26th August and Lopdell House Titirangi on the 13th – 16th September.
Carl (Paul Roukchan) is considered the best comedy act to come out of New Zealand since Flight of the Conchords. He’s been riding high since leaving New Zealand and friends behind in pursuit of fame and fortune. That is, until his lifestyle finally catches up with him one drunken evening after a show in New York. Carl turns tail and runs for cover – back to Auckland to hole up with ex-flatmates Derek and Jules. He is forced to face accusations of plagiarism and betrayal from his old friends, while outside the hounds of the media bay for blood.
This production of SUCCESS has been updated to include a satirical commentary on the upcoming elections; and appears at The Classic as part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations, paying homage to the remarkable talent that has passed through its doors over the years.
The debut season of SUCCESS in 2015 received rave reviews, and sold out in its final week. This is an unmissable play with a dash of stand-up that comes just in time for the election.
Praise for SUCCESS:
“… hilariously funny and very moving …” - Dominion Post.
“The acerbic dialogue is interspersed with stand-up routines that showcase divergent styles of comedy from brash gonzo-style rants to self-deprecating deadpan and witty intellectual jesting” –NZ Herald.
“It is a brave conceit, delivered perfectly. Overall, Success is an exceptional serio-comic piece, with a wit and heart that turns what could have been a simple gimmick into something both profound and hilarious.” - Theatre Scenes.
