Celebrate music at Good Vibrations
From solo instrumentalists, choirs and rock bands to vocalists, a big band and orchestra – St Paul’s Collegiate School’s Good Vibrations concert will be a musical extravaganza not to be missed.
On Friday August 11, a selection of St Paul’s finest musicians will take to the stage in the school’s Chapel of Christ the King for this special event, which will raise money for the expansion of the school’s music block.
The audience will be treated to an array of music styles from current students, as well as guest appearances from talented St Paul’s Old Collegians Katie Trigg, Zoe Lapwood and Fizzi Whale.
Classical singer Katie has sung with the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir and Opera Lovers, and she recently performed at Carnegie Hall in NYC as part of the 2017 Honors Performance Series. Prior to that, Katie toured with the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir to Canada in 2016, where she sang during the finale of the closing gala concert at the Kathaumixw International Choral Festival.
Songwriter Zoe has performed the national anthem at a Black Sticks test match and been a runner-up in the Play It Strange Peace Song Writing Competition, where she was offered to attend a music school in Japan. Zoe has also been a finalist for the Play It Strange Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition and has had her songs recorded on CD. She was a vocalist for the Mike Chunn Band that performed at the Beatles Tribute Concert and the De Sotos Band for the Rolling Stones Tribute Concert held in Auckland.
Harpist Fizzi was recently awarded the prestigious Sir Douglas Myers scholarship to study at Cambridge University in England. She plays the Paraguayan Harp, performing solo at a reception hosted by the Māori King last year.
Money raised from ticket sales will go towards enhancing musical opportunities for St Paul’s students in the school’s new music school. The expansion of the Mary Hornsby Music School will include the new Evan McCulloch teaching classroom (which will double as a band practice facility), a recording studio to allow implementation of the new music technology curriculum, three group practice rooms, student storage, music office and toilet facilities.
Good Vibrations Fundraising Concert 2017 is on Friday August 11 at 7pm in the St Paul’s Collegiate Chapel of Christ the King, 77 Hukanui Road, Hamilton. Complimentary refreshments will be served during the interval. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.stpauls.school.nz/tickets/event/23
