The Peddlers “On a Clear Day’ recently featured as a backing track on the award-winning series ‘Breaking Bad.’
The original Peddlers last album, Suite London, composed by Roy and backed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, has recently been re-released on CD with 6 bonus tracks added on. It ,received a 5 star review in The Times on the day of release (29th July 06) " ....Gliding between funk, soul and orchestral pop, it showcases a Fender Rhodes piano and Hammond organ as they were meant to be played, all iced by the simultaneously silken and gritty vocal of keyboardist Roy Phillips..." Zero 7 did a cover of one of the songs, 'I Have Seen,' in 2001 and it was a big hit for them.
Roy also has a number recorded on the 'Lord Large 1st Xl' album, www.lordlarge1stx11. Roy performs 'Closer' on this album, vocals recorded at Midnight Studios, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Roy, in 2006, released his latest solo album That's Way 'Tis, a tribute to his late father, Frankie Phillips, who inspired Roy's love of music. New Zealand Musicians Magazine (Feb/March) said "......Phillips' latest long awaited album has the master at full throttle- writing, arranging and performing and showing his keyboard no mercy....the album covers a mix of jazz, fusion and ballads and oozes quality....This is topshelf stuff....Phillips' music has stood the test of time and with quality like this you can hear why".
'An Evening With Roy Phillips' combines his skills as a superb vocalist, amazing keyboard player and humorous raconteur in an entertaining two hour show featuring the hits from The Peddlers and from Roy's new solo album BLUE GROOVE. The show is also available on DVD, filmed with a live audience at CTV Canterbury, NZ and produced by Ian Cumming. This is the last live video taping at CTV before the destruction of the building during the 2011 earthquake. For more information, go towww.royphillips.org and You Tube to sample Roy’s work.
