Fundraising Concert with Imogen Thirlwall at St Andrews
One of New Zealand's most versatile young sopranos, Imogen Thirlwall has established herself nationally as an artist who "commands attention on stage as a fine actress...her voice has such lift and energy, galvanizing any role she takes on" (Radio New Zealand, 2015).
Imogen is a 2017 Freemasons New Zealand Opera Artist and is proudly supported by the Freemasons Foundation. As a member of the Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus since 2012, Imogen has performed in ten productions with the company to date, including the nationally cast touring ensembles for The Mikado (2017) and Sweeney Todd (2016) under the direction of Stuart Maunder AM. Imogen is currently understudying the role of Frasquita in NZO’s production of Carmen (2017). Prizes include semi-finalist in the 2016 Lexus Song Quest and finalist in the 2015 New Zealand Aria. Imogen is a graduate of Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music, winning a full scholarship to complete a Master of Music in Classical Performance Voice.
With dual British and New Zealand citizenship, Imogen is relocating to Germany in September 2017 to pursue the goal of being a working opera singer. Imogen has been awarded a language scholarship through the Goethe-Institut New Zealand to complete an eight-week intensive course in Berlin, encompassing 170 units of instruction in an integration of classroom lessons, self-study activities and practice. Imogen will undertake private tuition with opera house vocal coaches ahead of auditioning for ensemble work in larger houses and soubrette roles in smaller opera houses.
Imogen & Friends is a special fundraising concert featuring Wellington's most promising opera talent. In collaboration with pianist Catherine Norton, Imogen is joined by current member of The Ten Tenors Cameron Barclay (tenor), fellow Freemasons New Zealand Opera Artists Barbara Graham (soprano), Elisabeth Harris (mezzo soprano), Declan Cudd (tenor) and Daniel O'Connor (baritone), and Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus members Jess Segal (mezzo soprano) and Stuart Coats (baritone).
The concert programme includes choral part song, lieder, opera, duos and quartets, musical theatre, and cabaret. Each performer is showcased for their unique qualities as a soloist and for their exceptional ability to perform in a tight knit ensemble. We are delighted share and celebrate the music that has brought us together in friendship.
All funds raised from this concert will be used for the vital tuition needed, such as singing lessons and vocal coaching, to pursue this career path. For more information, including full biographies of each performer, visit https://www.imogenthirlwall.com/nz-farewell/
