Planet Key musician crowdfunding for new album.
Wellington blues musician Darren Watson is fundraising via crowdfunding site Pledge Me to complete his sixth album. This time it’s going to be an all acoustic affair and Watson says he’s pretty sure there will be nothing the Electoral Commission can object to.
Watson, who gained national fame in the late 1980s as the leader of rhythm and blues showband Chicago Smoke Shop and more recently as the writer/performer of 2014's banned satirical song Planet Key, the subject of a lengthy legal battle over freedom of expression, says this acoustic album has been a lifetime coming.
“ I do a lot of solo acoustic shows” he says “ and people are always asking me where they can buy my acoustic album. So I figure, after thirty odd years that it’s probably about time, eh?"
The album is going to be released as a strictly limited edition LP and as a digital download. One hundred and eighty LP copies are available as rewards on the Pledge Me site along with downloads, t-shirts, previous albums, and even opportunities to host house concerts.
The album will only be recorded and released if Watson reaches his target of $9,500.
