Cricket Wellington are pleased to announce that all-rounder and Netherlands’ international Logan van Beek will be
joining the Firebirds for the 2017-18 season.
The right-arm quick has enjoyed success with both bat and ball in recent seasons, and will be working hard to push for
more chances in Wellington. Currently in the UK, van Beek has been playing for the Netherlands in a tri-series with
Denmark and an Essex XI. Having witnessed the resurgence of Hamish Bennett, another former-Cantabrian, in the capital
city, van Beek is looking forward to joining the Firebirds:
"It was a very hard decision to leave Canterbury, who are winning titles and have a great environment. The Firebirds
have given me an opportunity to challenge myself in a new environment and I look forward to helping in continuing the
success they have had in the past few seasons"
Following the signing of Michael Bracewell, another former-teammate of van Beek's in the 2009 New Zealand U19 side, the
Firebirds are putting the pieces in place to build on their performances of last season. Head coach Bruce Edgar is
pleased to have van Beek onboard, acknowledging the all-round skills of the former representative basketballer:
“We’re really pleased to have Logan join the squad this season - his game has developed nicely over the past few years
and he’s become a compelling pace bowling all-rounder.”
Following a season which featured a T20 title, a one day final, and plenty of early-season red ball success, the
Firebirds are keen to push on in 2017-18. As recently-appointed Cricket Wellington CEO Cam Mitchell acknowledges, there
is a strong desire for success within the region’s cricket community:
“2016-17 was a great year for Cricket Wellington but we’re focused on making next season even better. The Firebirds are
recruiting well towards that and we’ll be working hard to give the Blaze, our other rep teams, clubs, and junior
cricketers everything they need to achieve their goals this summer.”
