Celebrating Rural New Zealand - Street Cow by Mr G
- World-famous kiwi artist Graham Hoete, Mr G (famous for his murals of Steven Adams and Prince) is auctioning life size cow
- Unique opportunity to own a piece of art painted by an internationally regarded artist - Promoting Heart of the Community national art project
Celebrating the significance of our rural economy and the communities behind it at Fieldays, the world-famous Bay of Plenty Artist Graham Hoete, famously known as Mr G, has painted a life size fibreglass cow onsite which is now listed for sale on Trade Me auction. In a huge show of support, Kiwi world heavy weight boxing sensation and sporting icon Joseph Parker is also onsite and posing for a portrait by Mr G.
These Fielday activities are part of a huge artistic campaign, Mr G’s biggest creative project to date. Supported by Farmlands Co- operative, the world-famous artist is touring the length of heartland New Zealand. Called Heart of the Community, the project will see Mr G paint locally-inspired murals Farmlands stores to honour community pride.
To date Mr G has painted Paeroa’s equestrian history and recently for Invercargill the legendary Burt Munro. He says the mana of his work will be enshrined in ensuring the community’s connection to the wairua of their land shines through in each of the murals. “Agriculture is the pillar of our country and to be able to work with rural communities who don’t often get the airtime or public recognition they deserve, has given me the opportunity to give back and put these hard-working people on the map. It’s an honour to be able to do this.”
Of the 83 Farmlands stores nationwide, 15 will be painted by Mr G this year. The mural designs will be created as part of a collaborative public project, with local communities encouraged to share their ideas and stories of what makes their town and the land surrounding it unique.
Subsequent towns will be revealed via Farmlands’ social media and website. Trade me auction http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1347748941=true
