STELLAR returns to Smales Farm this month for its third year and is set to shine brighter than ever before with an entertaining four--day festival to include light installations, music, entertainment and food to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year.
Smales Farm will welcome more than 15,000 people to the truly amazing after--dark festival with vibrant light installations designed by the award--winning Angus Muir Designs.
This is a weekend set to dazzle those of all ages, with seven key installations to reflect the Matariki constellation and create an incredible experience.

The free event will surprise and delight with DJ's, Vospertron performances, workshops and a fun bespoke food offering.
Food Space present Puna Kai; enjoy some of New Zealand’s finest street--food vendors as they serve dishes with a Māori twist.
Angus Muir, Kiwi light artist and architect also known for creating art installations at Vivid Sydney, speaks about what to expect at STELLAR 2017.
“There are more reasons than ever to put STELLAR on the itinerary this year with a bigger focus on interactive works concentrated to one central location on the field.
“I see a very wholesome offering at Smales Farm that sets it apart from other light festivals.
Tactical elements such as food, entertainment, and fun things for the kids to do means it is accessible for everyone; young and old.
“People love art and having worked on a number of light festivals, for Smales Farm and globally, I've seen a growing trend towards people appreciating art, lights and giant outdoor galleries,” says Muir.
The light festival has been apart of North Shore’s urban community for the past three years.
More recent arrivals to Auckland such as Bright Nights and the installation at ASB Waterfront Theatre earlier this year has added to the growing enthusiasm for spectacular light festivals in New Zealand.
Smales Farm CEO, Paul Gunn, says to look out for more events like STELLAR that provide a forum for creative conversations at Smales Farm.
“Hosting festivals like STELLAR, and supporting important cultural events like Matariki creates a compelling reason to entice more people over to the Farm, and sets the bar on what else to expect from our thriving events programme and innovative business community,” he says.
