Applications open for NZSA Peter & Dianne Beatson Fellowship
Calling for applications from writers of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama with a literary track record, who are currently working on a new project.
This annual Fellowship is generously donated by Peter Beatson and provides the successful applicant with a stipend of $7,000.
In 2016 the fellowship was awarded to Kāpiti writer Tina Makereti, enabling her to take time out to write before taking up a new role as Lecturer in Creative Writing at Massey University. The Fellowship time was crucial in making significant progress on a new novel, The Imaginary Lives of James Pōneke. By the time the Beatson Fellowship concluded, she had a final draft to send to her publisher, and the novel is now due for publication in March 2018 with Random House.
Deadline for applications: 4pm Friday 18 August 2017
To apply for the fellowship you need to be a member of the NZ Society of Authors (PEN NZ Inc). Membership is open to all developing and established writers. NZSA provides: literary sector news, a mentorship programme, manuscript assessment, manuscript services, contract advice, advocacy and representation for writers, information on the publishing industry, grants and other opportunities, along with affiliation to international PEN.
