GHOST WAVE & GROUT PRESENT
MIND GAMES: A FUNDRAISER FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN NEW ZEALAND
‘Mind Games’ is a festival that will bring together many of Auckland’s finest local, independent bands and artists to
raise funds for The Mental Health Foundation and increase awareness about mental health in New Zealand, with a
particular focus on the mental wellbeing of the artistic and musical communities.
On Friday the 9th of June, the ‘Mind Games’ festival will be taking place across both venues at Whammy Bar on
Karangahape Rd to bring together some of the most interesting and eclectic musicians in Auckland to raise awareness
around mental health in New Zealand and the support that can be offered within the music and creative community.
All profits raised by the event will be donated directly to The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.
THE LINEUP
The ‘Mind Games’ lineup will include the likes of Ghost Wave who combine the Flying Nun jangle with a dubby psychadelic
groove reminiscent of 90s Manchester, genre-bending electronic act SoccerPractise who perform in both English and Te
Reo, and ethereal dream-pop duo Purple Pilgrims fresh off a recent performance at Laneway.
Also on the bill are Heavy, Siobhan Leilani, Couchmaster, Peach Milk, Hugo Jay and more to be announced soon.
THE TEAM
This project was initiated by Matthew L. Paul of Ghost Wave who is collaborating with local promoter Grout Presents to
pull the event together.
“I wanted to do something around Christmas time and kind of use the band as a way to do some good in the city. I didn’t
want to give up on the idea, so I got in touch with Taylor from Grout Presents who was keen to get on board and help put
something together. I don’t know a soul who hasn’t experienced their own battles with mental health or at least been
touched by someone who has – we wanted to get the conversation out in the open and break the stigma a bit. It feels like

“Working with artists and musicians it becomes very clear that mental health issues in the community are prominent and
the nature of putting yourself on the line to create art and music makes mental wellbeing a hugely important cause to
provide support and awareness for. Having the support of the bands, Whammy Bar, and our sponsors and stalwarts of the
community Phantom Billstickers, Under The Radar and 95bFM we hope will help us raise money and get the word out there

All profits from the festival will be donated to the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation.
Chief Executive Shaun Robinson says, “The Mental Health Foundation would like to thank everyone involved in the music
