Finalists announced for the Roxy5 Short Film Competition 2017

The quality of films entered into this year’s Roxy5 Short Film Competition made selecting 12 films for the Judges Evening incredibly difficult, as Co-Producer Melissa Conway put it, “If it was up to me every film could have been a finalist!”

With entries from schools across the greater Wellington region, this year’s public screening at Newland Intermediate was a huge amount of fun, and inspired all those involved to continue developing their skills as filmmakers.

The films are judged on their creative story telling potential, by a panel of independent film industry experts, led by Oscar winner Jamie Selkirk. On Wednesday 24 May at a Red Carpet event, the finalists will be screened at Roxy Cinema, where two Supreme Winner awards will be announced, alongside mentoring prizes for Best Original Musical Score, Best VFX, and the People’s Choice Award.

The 12 films are; Ranginui and Papatuanukui from Otaki College, Sock Mess Monster and Inside Outisde from Kāpiti College, Pining and Whaiwhai from Tawa College, Paper Bag from Hataitai School, Man on a Mission from Evans Bay Intermediate School, Distant from Queen Margaret College, Daggs on Tour from Rongotai College, One Bar from Paekakariki School, Home Sweet Home from Raroa Intermediate, and Shelter from Wellington High School.

Co- Producer, Kristy Grant, says “The two Supreme Winner teams then go on an amazing hands-on journey to remake their film under the guidance of professional industry mentors and Capital E Digital Tutors.”

The Roxy5 Short Film Competition aims to benefit children and young people by providing authentic opportunities to start them on the path to successful careers in creative digital industries.
