Celebrate Matariki with your local library and be in to win

In celebration of Matariki (Maaori New Year), Waikato District Libraries are encouraging people to write a poem or design a bookmark and go in the draw to win a range of prizes.

You could win a $60 gift voucher for first place or a $30 gift voucher for second place. The supreme winner will also win another $60 gift voucher. The winning bookmark designs will be turned into official library bookmarks.

Entries for the Waikato District Libraries Matariki competition close on Friday 16 June. The age categories are: 5-9 years old; 10-15 years old; 16 years and over.

“This is the fourth year we have run a Matariki competition for our communities,” says Customer Delivery Manager Angela Parquist. “Matariki is a special time of the year and this competition is a great way for people to showcase their creative talents. It’s also a nice opportunity for us to encourage people to get involved with their local libraries and the many events they run throughout the year.”

You can pick up an entry form at any one of our libraries or offices – Huntly, Meremere, Ngaruawahia, Raglan, Te Kauwhata, Tuakau Kauwhata, Tuakau – or download a form from the Waikato District Council website: www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/matariki

A special prize-giving will be held in the Council Chambers in July.
