Weta Workshop's Giant Killer Robots Heavy Hitters appearing at Wellycon!


Wellycon welcomes Weta Workshop's GKR Heavy Hitters to their tenth anniversary Queen's Birthday annual boardgaming event.

Weta Workshop will be previewing their first table top board game at the conference. Strap in for the most epic spectator sport this side of the megapocalypse. Gather your squad of Giant Killer Robots (GKRs) and join us to welcome the team from this crazy crowdsourced games. Come to Wellycon to learn how they will scheme, strategize and strong-arm their way to victory as they dominate the media landscape in this exciting new game.

Not only will Wellycon 2017 feature luminaries such as Weta Workshop but we are proud to welcome local game designers, Garphill Games. Cheeky Parrot Games and Shilmil Games who will all be demonstrating their new and upcoming games.

Wellycon is New Zealand's largest and friendliest annual boardgaming convention. This year the convention will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary and will welcome hundreds of boardgame enthusiasts of all ages to learn new games, compete in tournaments, make new friends and meet old ones and enjoy the new games begin previewed.

The centre of the conference is the amazing library of hundreds of games which attendees can borrow and play during the whole weekend. Games range from quick two people games, fun interactive games through to complex games which take most of the day for dedicated gamers to play. A series of tournaments will also be held allowing attendees to test their skill (and luck) on their favourite games.

Saturday afternoon also sees a specially designed mega game for up to 40 players who will navigate the perils of Aquila Rift. On Sunday a children's focused session from 10 am to 2 pm will include family friendly games, a life size pirate game, quizes and contests.


Doors open at 10am Saturday 3 June, and an all day family pass is only $40. If you’re coming on your own - an adult is $20 a day or hook yourself up with a 2 day pass for $35. Early bird discounts are currently available so register now.
