Capital E’s Electro Jungle features in LUX Light Festival’s The Playground Precinct

Capital E will be part of The Playground Precinct in Frank Kitts Park at the 2017 LUX Light Festival from 12-21 May with
the vibrant and dynamic Electro Jungle installation. Following on from the success of last year’s collaborative project
Fab Moments, Capital E have created an exciting fusion of digital and creative experiences that invites participants
into an interactive, immersive and playful sonic jungle.
The project sees Capital E and Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Music collaborate, and invites children,
young people and their families to interact and engage with the LUX Playground concept, while exploring, creating and
playing with light and creative technology.
“LUX Light Festival with its celebration of light, art, space, technology and design, is very much a family friendly
event that aligns with Capital E’s core vision of providing children and young people with unique, interactive,
innovative and creative technology experiences that are sure to inspire and delight”, says Karen Carey, Capital E’s
Creative Producer – Public Programmes.
Two immersive and interactive jungle containers and an outdoor UV dance space will be created by Capital E’s Digital and
Public Programmes teams.
“Children can create their own interactive light show by playing our thongophone, an instrument made from PVC pipes with
pressure sensor cables that connect to individual LED letter lightboxes forming a large colourful Capital E sign”, says
Karen.
As you might have guessed, the thongophone pipes are triggered by hits with a jandal (aka thongs and flip-flops!), not
perhaps your typical instrument of choice, but a perfect way for kids to make jungle beats on their junk instruments in
a fun filled environment.
Sharing similar core values, the collaborative bond between LUX Light Festival, Victoria University of Wellington’s
School of Music and Capital E encourages creativity and experience with light, all in an installation that will not only
excite children’s eyes and ears but is likely to surprise a few adults as well.
