Limited tickets available for some plays
Promoters today announce that an astonishing 50,000-plus tickets have been sold to the 2017 season of Shakespeare at POP-UP GLOBE.
This makes it one of the fastest selling entertainment gigs in New Zealand, with sales figures in the zone of Justin Bieber’s sellout Auckland concert next week while the entire season is on track to reach the heady heights of those by superstar Adele who’s sell-out concert series, starting on 23 March, set records when it went on sale last year.
So what would Shakespeare have thought about keeping company with two of the world's biggest pop stars? He would have loved it. 400 years after his death and still rockin’ it beyond the grave, he’d probably be saying: Hello from the other side and Where Art Thou Now!! If music be the food of life, play on.
Since opening on 23 February, POP-UP GLOBE has been selling thousands of tickets a week and gaining momentum as audiences are blown away by performances at the world’s first full-scale temporary replica of Shakespeare’s theatre, the second Globe, located at Ellerslie Racecourse.
Critics have described the uproarious comedy Much Ado About Nothing – directed by NZ Actress of the Year Miriama McDowell – as “superb”, the bloody war epic Henry V starring Rawiri Paratene as “high drama”, As You Like It featuring former Shortland Streeter Jacque Drew and Lord of the Rings actor Phil Grieve as “an enormous amount of fun” and the psychological thriller Othello, starring former Shortland Street heartthrob, Te Kohe Tuhaka as “incredible”.
Demand for these amazing shows has meant that tickets for some weekend performances are now limited. Fans are urged to act without delay as this season will sellout.
