PRESS RELEASE MONDAY 6TH MARCH 2017
Living Dead Rollers take on Timaru Derby Dames in Canterbury Clash
Kicking off our season with a provincial bust up, Dead End Derby's Living Dead Rollers take on the Timaru Derby Dames on
Saturday 11th March at 7pm at Cowles Stadium.
Following an unbeaten season in 2016, Living Dead Rollers look set to continue their winning streak and have their
sights set on Timaru. But the South Canterbury team have no plans to make it easy for the Christchurch team this time
around. The Dames formed in 2013 and ended the 2016 season with a strong victory against River City Rollers in
Whanganui.
Roller derby is a contact sport. It is played by two teams of 5 players in a game of two 30-minute halves. A designated
jammer from each team has to race through the pack and score points by lapping members of the opposing team. The game is
made up of small jams which can run for up to 2 minutes, so players need to be able to use speed, offence and defence
tactics in order to win. For a great online video of the basics of Roller Derby use this link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbMFy2r-Mb0
