When Our Powers Combine…the Arts Succeed!
New Zealand Comedy Trust & Creative
Capital Arts Trust
In 2017 the New Zealand Comedy Trust and the Creative Capital Trust (CCAT) are joining forces, collaborating to present the NZ International Comedy Festival powered by Flick Electric Co. in Wellington. In its 25th year the Festival runs from 27 April to 21 in May in both Auckland and Wellington.
This year presents new opportunities to refresh the Comedy Fest experience, share resources and on the ground knowledge. CCAT have agreed to join with the Comedy Trust to assist with the delivery of the Wellington component of the Festival, utilising invaluable expertise and connections in the Wellington arts scene.
Through this initiative, opportunities have arisen to enable further effective engagement with artists, existing audiences and new audiences. As a result, CCAT will be able to retain quality staff beyond their current festivals (New Zealand Fringe Festival and CubaDupa) in Wellington. Another benefit for both organisations is the ability to share ideas, experiences and resources, while providing representation in each city for each organisation.
Both the NZ Comedy Trust and CCAT are registered charitable trusts, reliant on funding and sponsorship. The Comedy Trust fosters the growth of comedy as a performing art – championing the art of laughter; the CCAT delivers the New Zealand Fringe Festival and CubaDupa, offering vibrant arts experiences to the Wellington Region.
The New Zealand Comedy Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organisation - with a focus on championing the art of laughter so that more people laugh more often. For 25 years, we’ve passionately showcased the most exciting comedians from both New Zealand and throughout the world at the annual NZ International Comedy Festival. The Trust works year-round to support the wider comedy industry, with a specific focus on working with comedians to professionally develop their skills, network and establish themselves a career in comedy.
The Creative Capital Arts Trust (CCAT) is an umbrella organisation which was established in 2011 to facilitate the delivery of key arts events in Wellington and create a reliable resource for the emerging arts sector in Wellington. CCAT aims to provide a professional and sustainable body delivering fresh and vibrant arts events supported by a variety of funders and engaging a wide range of audiences, both locally and internationally. The core objectives of CCAT are: To facilitate the delivery of arts events in Wellington which provide a platform for innovative new work and help to develop the skills of emerging artists; To create highly accessible and diverse arts festivals which help develop emerging audiences; and to facilitate events which encourage more people to participate in the arts.
