Lotto NZ announces game improvements to Lotto and Powerball

Lotto NZ is pleased to announce a number of changes to its flagship lottery game that will improve game play for its customers.

“We’re making some changes to Lotto and Powerball that will create more Lotto winners, and give away bigger Powerball prizes”, said Lotto NZ’s Chief Executive Wayne Pickup.

The game changes are the latest in a series of innovations from Lotto NZ, following on from the introduction of an additional weekly Lotto draw in October 2015.

“We created the biggest game change in the history of Lotto, when we brought Lotto, Powerball and Strike to Wednesday as well as Saturday.

“Lotto on Wednesday has been really popular with our players, with more people playing our games more often. Now we’re making these games even better.

“We’ve listened to what players have asked for – more ways to win and bigger prizes,” said Mr Pickup.

The game improvements include:

• More Lotto winners than ever before through the introduction of a new Lotto division 7 for matching three Lotto numbers on one line

• Bigger Powerball prizes across all divisions

• The ability to play Strike on its own

• All new dip tickets.

In order to make these game improvements, the price of Lotto will increase by 10 cents per line (to 70 cents) and the price of Powerball will increase by 20 cents per line (to 80 cents).

“Over 770 Kiwis have become millionaires overnight through playing Lotto, and we’re looking forward to continuing that winning streak for our players,” said Mr Pickup.

Lotto NZ exists to generate money for community purposes and last year returned $204 million to the NZ Lottery Grants Board to help make good things happen in Kiwi communities.

“Thanks to Lotto players, thousands of community projects are made possible every year.”

Lotto funding is also a major source of funding for Sport New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Commission.

The game changes will come into play from 2 April. More information is available on https://mylotto.co.nz/game-changes
