Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust launches reading resource at Matatini 2017

On Friday 24th February Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust are launching a new reading resource, Ako Pānui, to be distributed to all Kōhanga Reo around the country. The launch will take place at Te Matatini 2017.

Ako Pānui, published by Huia Publishers, is a set of five readers in te reo Māori for children learning to read Māori.

‘We are very pleased to be able to provide resources like Ako Pānui to our Kōhanga Reo’, says Kararaina Cribb, CEO of Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust (pictured). ‘Our aim is to supplement the great work that staff at Kōhanga Reo already do by providing these resources and support nationally. We're also looking forward to announcing this at Matatini 2017, a home for the revitalisation of te reo Māori.’

There are currently over 460 Kōhanga Reo throughout Aotearoa New Zealand as well as Australia and the United Kingdom.

Te Kōhanga Reo is a Māori development initiative, aimed at maintaining and strengthening Māori language and philosophies within a cultural framework initiated by Māori leaders in 1982.

The launch of Ako Pānui will be held at Matatini 2017 in the Te Kōhanga Reo Marquee, Kahungunu Pavilion area at 2.00pm on Friday 24th February 2017.
