One Week Only.

PRESS RELEASE

OUR GIFT TO NEW ZEALAND
Thank you New Zealand.

As a token of our appreciation of your support, we at POP-UP GLOBE -- the world’s first temporary working replica of Shakespeare’s theatre, the second Globe – are offering up 2000 GROUNDLINGS tickets to the first week of plays for just $1*.

Tickets are on sale today via Eventfinda. There’s no hitch. We simply want as many people as possible to come and see Shakespeare’s masterpieces at our playhouse at Ellerslie Racecourse in the first week of the season.

Artistic director and founder of POP-UP GLOBE, Dr Miles Gregory, says the $1* tickets are a way of repaying his gratitude to the city that has supported his wild and crazy dream!

“From the very beginning of the project, we have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from our home city,” says Dr Gregory. “At the heart of our mission is a dream to share Shakespeare’s works with as many people as possible, regardless of their income. Shakespeare is for everyone. It is not an elite pursuit.

“We are very proud of our theatre and the four amazing plays we’ll be staging over the next 12 weeks. We want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to share this project.”

What are groundlings? Historically they were cheap tickets (One Penny), and today they are again, except they are more highly valued among Shakespeare fans. They are right in front of the stage – standing -- and are considered THE place to be by fans of the playwright. In Season 1 of POP-UP GLOBE, audiences left their seats to gravitate toward this zone to be part of the action. Be part of this movement in our first week.
