New Zealand Community Ambassadors Inducted

The Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017) Organising Committee today welcomed the first of the tournament’s New Zealand Community Ambassadors at an event held in Auckland.

In front of New Zealand Sport and Recreation Minister Hon Dr Jonathan Coleman and RLWC2017 CEO Andrew Hill, the first of a 100-strong team of Community Ambassadors received their uniform from RLWC2017 Chief Ambassador NZ, Sir Peter Leitch.

RLWC2017 CEO Andrew Hill said: “Our Rugby League World Cup Community Ambassadors are passionate advocates of the sport and understand the positive role Rugby League plays in the community.

“The successful delivery of this year’s Rugby League World Cup will be in large part to the role of our Community Ambassadors. These passionate volunteers will help the Organising Committee promote the tournament throughout their communities and assist in the execution of World Cup events.

“This year’s tournament will be the most attended, most watched and most anticipated Rugby League World Cup in history, and one that will leave a lasting legacy for Rugby League in New Zealand,” concluded Hill.

New Zealand will co-host Rugby League’s pinnacle international event with Australia and Hosting Partner, Papua New Guinea, from 27 October 2017 to 2 December 2017 with over 450,000 fans expected to attend matches.

Appointed as RLWC2017 Chief Ambassador NZ by the Organising Committee in July of 2016, Sir Peter Leitch said: “The Rugby League folk in our community are the lifeblood of our game. Great Kiwis such as these Community Ambassadors are a key part of what will make this Rugby League World Cup great,” he concluded.
