National One Day Champs to be Hosted at Kihikihi
Kihikihi International Horse Trial has been named as the hosts of the 2017 National One Day Event Championships.
President Georgie Smith said it was an exciting first for what is widely touted as one of New Zealand’s best events.
The Forest gate Trophy (CIC3*), Waiteko Trophy (CIC2*), Ferndale Salver Trophy (CIC1*) and Tait Trophy (CNC105) will be contested at the April 7-9 event. The awarding to Kihikihi move the championships from the spring to autumn, with it most recently held in October at Arran Station, in Hawke’s Bay.
“When they called for tenders for the event, we knew it was something we should pitch for as we’ve got a great event that we believe should carry championship titles,” says Smith.
It is the first time Kihikihi has hosted the champs, but they have previously run World Cup and Trans Tasman competitions.
“It is very exciting for us and we are looking forward to riders seeing our schedule. From a competitive point of view, it will be the wonderful event it always is.”
As well as the championship classes, Kihikihi will also hold 1* and 105 classes for those not keen on entering championship classes at those levels.
“The timing means it is the perfect preparation for those looking to compete at Taupo, which is five or so weeks later.”
Kihikihi’s renown course designer extraordinaire, John Nicholson, has had a busy “off-season” trotting around the globe as he works his magic for riders of all abilities.
