The Blondini Gang Hit The Road, Northland to Invercargill

THE BLONDINI GANG HIT THE ROAD AS THEY "TAKE THEIR BLOODY CARS TO INVERCARGILL"

A road trip of epic proportions will take place this summer as the cast of PORK PIE hit the road in their Blondini MINI, leading a convoy of other MINIs all the way from Northland to Invercargill to celebrate the film’s upcoming release in Kiwi cinemas on February 2nd.

Kicking off with a yellow carpet World Premiere at Auckland’s Civic Theatre on Thursday January 26th, the Blondini Convoy will then embark on an epic journey to Invercargill, along the way visiting local towns, taking part in events, Drive-In screenings (In Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch) and meeting people excited to see the reboot of the adored Kiwi classic.

MINI owners from around NZ are being invited to join the convoy, either for a leg of the trip, or for the whole mammoth roadie. There will also be opportunities for members of the public to grab a selfie with the cast, filmmakers and the MINIs in their home town.

The epic roadie will culminate on February 1st with the Southland Premiere at the Civic Theatre in Invercargill, with members of the film’s cast and crew in attendance, before the film opens in cinemas nationwide the following day.

The film’s lead actor Dean O’Gorman, who plays failing writer Jon Hardy, can’t wait to get back on the road and meet audiences ahead of the theatrical release.

“I spent almost 6 weeks in a MINI Cooper with James Rolleston driving the length of the South Island, and it was the one of the greatest filming experiences I've had. We got to meet so many people who had great affection for the original film but were also really interested and, dare I say, excited about what we were going to do. I can’t wait to show them the final product.”

Producer Tom Hern is excited about celebrating the release with New Zealand. “Pork Pie is a film for all Kiwis,” says Hern. “Therefore it makes complete sense for us to hit the road and go the length of the country, with our film under our arm and a convoy of MINIs alongside us before the film is released nationwide. Fittingly - we’re taking our bloody cars to Invercargill!”

Tickets for the World Premiere in Auckland are on sale to the public now from Ticketmaster with tickets for the Southland Premiere on sale from the Invercargill City Council Booking Office from Monday 19th December.

More information on the road trip between Northland and Invercargill, including how the public can be involved in the top-to-bottom convoy, will be released in the new year. Further premiere screenings as part of the road trip will also be announced.

A modern re-imagining of the 1981 classic Goodbye Pork Pie, PORK PIE stars Dean O’Gorman (Trumbo, Hillary, The Hobbit), James Rolleston (Boy, The Dark Horse, The Rehearsal) and Ashleigh Cummings (Puberty Blues, Tomorrow when the War Began) and was written and directed by Matt Murphy, son of the film’s original director Geoff Murphy, and produced by Tom Hern (The Dark Horse). The film is set for release in cinemas around New Zealand on Waitangi Weekend 2017 (February 2nd).

Four Knights Film presents PORK PIE, in association with the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ On Air, Southern Light Films, Treehouse Films, Random Films, Park Road Post Production and Augusto. The film will be distributed in cinemas by STUDIOCANAL.
