Air New Zealand lands a swift number one with Summer Wonderland

Air New Zealand’s Christmas song Summer Wonderland has hit number one on the New Zealand iTunes chart, shaking off new releases from global stars including Taylor Swift and Zayn, Clean Bandit and Adele to claim the top spot.

The down under twist on the Christmas classic Walking in a Winter Wonderland has attracted more than 10 million views since the campaign launched on 1 December. Air New Zealand released the track on commercial streaming sites last week to raise funds for the Starship Foundation.

Summer Wonderland stars multi-platinum artist Ronan Keating and teenage Kiwi actor Julian Dennison and has been a smash hit with audiences worldwide, gaining exposure in global media outlets like the Daily Mail and trending on Twitter and YouTube.

Air New Zealand’s General Manager Global Brand and Content Marketing Jodi Williams says she’s thrilled fans have made Summer Wonderland the number one choice for their festive playlists, while also making a difference for the Starship Foundation.

“Our ambition was to release a Christmas song that told the world about the special moments that make a Southern Hemisphere Christmas – a season of sunshine, barbecues and beaches rather than snowmen and sleighs.

“It’s fantastic to think the song’s homegrown lyrics are bringing a smile to millions worldwide and helping to make Christmas a bit brighter for families spending their holidays in Starship.”

The online video and lyrics for Air New Zealand’s Summer Wonderland are available here. The audio track is available to download on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and Apple Music for NZD $1.29, with all Air New Zealand proceeds going to the Starship Foundation.
