Give the gift of love with PORSE this Christmas
In-home early childcare provider PORSE is
inviting New Zealanders to help put a smile on the faces of
more Kiwi children this Christmas.
New Zealand’s largest in-home childcare provider PORSE has launched a nationwide gift drive to help put presents under the trees of less fortunate families.
PORSE General Manager Kerry Henderson said people can participate in the inaugural appeal by delivering presents to PORSE community team offices until 19 December, when they will be donated to local charities.
“We know how hard the festive season can be for thousands of people living below the poverty line; this is something we can do to help bring a little extra Christmas cheer to those children,” Mrs Henderson says.
“We have PORSE community teams and educators all over the country which makes it easy to drop in a donation of a small gift for a child, and support those in need at what can be a very stressful time.”
Each participating PORSE community team has chosen a local charity to support. Many opted to donate to The Salvation Army, which expects to see 17,000 families and individuals this year who find Christmas a struggle.
Salvation Army Head of Social Services Major Pam Waugh says, “we're always extremely grateful for organisations like PORSE who take the time to think of others at Christmas.
“For families who can't afford to buy presents Christmas it can be a tough time feeling like they're missing out. For parents, knowing that someone cared enough to help them brings hope to life, and for children to get something that's just theirs is a special memory they treasure.”
Presents for children of all ages are welcome, but need to be new, handcrafted or in very good condition and with a label identify a suitable age and gender, or unwrapped.
“At PORSE we understand not every family is in the position to put presents under the Christmas tree, when putting food on the table is challenge enough. That’s why we are asking our community to help us support charities and initiatives spreading the joy this festive season,” Mrs Henderson says.
Christmas presents
can be dropped at PORSE offices from Monday to Friday,
