Childhood favourite back for Christmas
Dunedin (Friday, 2 December 2016) – A well-known Dunedin Christmas tradition is coming back to bring Christmas joy.
A childhood favourite for many Dunedin residents, Pixie Town opens at Toitū Otago Settlers Museum on Friday 9 December.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the historic exhibition, visit Santa and have their photo taken, make Christmas crafts, dress-up like a pixie or relax with a Christmas book.
The Toitū team are working hard to prepare the exhibit for another busy season and Kirsty Glengarry, Visitor Experience Manager says, “Every year we hear about the memories people have of visiting Pixie Town as children. Now they come along with their own children or grandchildren to share the experience and create more memories It’s a wonderful tradition.”
The pixies are on display for a slightly shorter time in 2016 due to increasing fragility caused by age. Pixie Town was first displayed at the Dunedin DIC department store in 1951.
“After a detailed conservation report the pixies are receiving extra special attention this year and will finish their work on Christmas Eve, rather than early January.”
Christmas items will be available in the Toitū shop with traditional toys on sale. There will be a Family Christmas Chill-Out-Zone with Christmas craft, toys, dress-ups and more.
