Story Brings Christmas Magic to the Airwaves with Earthquake Fundraiser
TV3’s Story is bringing a very Kiwi addition to New Zealand airwaves this Christmas season, launching their very own holiday hit ‘Christmas in New Zealand’ - with all proceeds going to the New Zealand Red Cross November Earthquake appeal.
The track is available now on iTunes, and features an eclectic line-up of New Zealanders including Frankie Stevens, Joe Cotton, Dennis Marsh, Peter Dunne, Nadia Lim - and the Briscoes lady.
After discovering an uncelebrated gem of a track ‘Christmas in New Zealand’ by Dennis Marsh the Story team have worked with Dennis to bring a modern version to the airwaves. Their dream is to get a real Kiwi Christmas song to Christmas number one.
Reporter Dale Owens, who chanced across the original track, describes it as festive, friendly, fun - and shamelessly New Zealand.
“Christmas here is about friends, family, giving and generosity - not snow or sitting by the fire. Dennis' track spells out a Kiwi Christmas, it’s about time we had our own Christmas song. ”
If the name Dennis Marsh doesn't ring a bell, it should - he's currently recording his 29th album with Sony. Dennis, 65, has been the top-selling country music artist in New Zealand. His album ‘Maori Songbook’ outsold Adele and Katy Perry locally when it was released in 2011.
Story Executive Producer Fiona MacMillan said: “We think this song could become a classic, plus you can’t go past the fact that it’s a great way to help the people of North Canterbury and Marlborough who deserve a bit of a hand these holidays.”
‘Christmas in New Zealand’ can be purchased on iTunes now with proceeds going to the New Zealand Red Cross November Earthquake appeal.
