Auckland Live Summer In The Square Kicks Off Today
1 – 23 Dec & 9 Jan – 24 Feb
Free in Aotea Square
Summer has officially arrived, bringing with it Auckland Live Summer in the Square - a celebration of the season with free events in the Aotea precinct. Thursday 1 December marks the start of this sizzling smorgasbord of daily events, fun activities, live music and more, which runs through until 24 February 2017!
The stage is set for a massive lineup of artists and musicians to entertain and engage audiences of all ages over the coming three months. Locals and visitors can kick off their shoes and relax with bean bags, deck chairs and shade awnings on offer in the city centre’s Aotea Square. From the two-storey high LEGO® Christmas Tree to weekly gardening workshops, a spicy Latin fiesta to soaring operatic arias, there’s something for everyone!
Today from 12pm - 3pm, DJ Mr Crawley launches the live music programme with an all-vinyl set of weird and wonderful curiosities, and tomorrow, Friday 2 December at 2pm, the New Zealand premiere of 'street ballet’, Trolleys, will be performed by extraordinary dancers from The New Zealand Dance Company.
A full February programme keeps this vibrant summer-long series running through to Friday 24 February. Yet to be announced, the highlights will include a plethora of Auckland Fringe performances, excellent musicianship from the APO Young Achievers, a showcase of the audiovisual phenomenon K-pop and much more.
