release
Auckland Rugby League's (ARL) board of directors is pleased to announce that Gordon Gibbons and Shane Price have been elected directors of the organisation, effective from Saturday 19 November 2016.
The appointments are a result of the annual elections by Auckland Rugby League clubs.
Gibbons was re-elected following his one year stint in the position and Price replaces Cathy Friend QSM who has retired after supporting rugby league for more than six decades and serving over 25 years on the board.
ARL director and interim general manager Greg Whaiapu said that although Cathy has stepped down from the director's role, she has been bestowed an Auckland Rugby League Kaumātua (elder).
"Cathy's knowledge and experience is very much valued and appreciated," he said.
"There is no doubt that she will continue to support and contribute to our great game."
An official presentation to honour Cathy's service will take place in the New Year.
After having completed one year on the board, Gibbons says he is very grateful to have been re-elected.
"I sincerely thank those clubs who have supported me and look forward to working with them for the betterment of the game within the Auckland region."
"There are exciting times ahead for the game and I am even more excited to be a part of it."
Price says that being elected onto the ARL board is an absolute privilege.
"I look forward to getting involved with the ARL, working with rugby league clubs in Auckland and making a difference."
Price started playing rugby league in 1970. He played through the grades and is still currently playing in the Masters competition for the Glen Innes Falcons.
He has served as both a coach, manager and more recently as president for the Mt Wellington Rugby League Club.
