Landmarks Whenua Tohunga Launch
Nine significant places in Northland are brought together under the Landmarks Whenua Tohunga banner and all media are invited to the launch at Kororipo Heritage Park, Kerikeri Inlet, 10.00am, Thursday 1 December.
The nine sites showcased in Landmarks Whenua Tohunga are: Cape Brett Rakaumangamanga, Clendon House, Kororipo Heritage Park, Māngungu Mission, Pompallier Mission, Rangihoua Heritage Park, Ruapekapeka Pā, Te Waimate Mission and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
Chosen because of the important stories they tell, each will have a distinctive marker post or sign identifying them as part of the Landmarks Whenua Tohunga initiative. Coupled with this there will be an online presence at: www.landmarks.nz where people can find out more.
New Zealanders and overseas visitors will be able to explore and appreciate these places which showcase some of this country’s important cultural and heritage sites and contribute to this nation’s story. This will promote further tourism in the region and have economic benefits.
This initiative is a partnership between Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage, the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai, Heritage New Zealand and Northland iwi and hapū.
The launch, including the unveiling of a marker post which identifies the site, is expected to take about one hour.
