Thousands of Santas run for children’s charity

The Great KidsCan Santa Run is happening for the seventh year in a row and is set to be bigger than ever before! Last year’s event raised over $40,000 to help KidsCan continue its work supporting disadvantaged Kiwi kids and this year there are 19 events happening right around the country.

On Wednesday 7 December 2016, thousands of people dressed in Santa suits will take to the streets in Whangarei, Warkworth, Auckland North (Albany and Takapuna), Auckland West (Te Atatu), Auckland Central, Auckland South (Manukau and Onehunga)*, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Palmerston North*, Whanganui, Wellington, Blenheim, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill for the 2-3km fun run/walk.

The KidsCan Charitable Trust is encouraging businesses, individuals, families and groups of friends to get behind the event to make it the best yet. Individuals or groups dressed in full Santa regalia (which is provided as part of entry) will take part in the 2-3km fun run/walk in support of disadvantaged Kiwi kids living in hardship.

Last year’s event attracted approximately 4,000 participants raising thousands for the cause, and KidsCan are hoping to increase the number of Santa’s to over 5,000 this year.

Julie Chapman, KidsCan CEO and Co-founder says, “The Santa Run is a fun and festive event for people of all ages across New Zealand to get involved in. We are lucky enough to have been part of the run for seven years now and the funds raised make a significant difference to the work we do for Kiwi kids going without the basics.”

To enter as an individual or team go to www.santarun.co.nz

*The Takapuna, Manukau and Palmerston North events will be on Thursday the 8th of December, and the New Plymouth event will be held on Saturday the 10th of December at 11.30am.
