A German Christmas
Sunday 4 December | 5pm | Auckland Town Hall
Who else could possibly be better equipped to present A GERMAN CHRISTMAS in New Zealand than Bach Musica NZ with their very own German Music and Artistic Director Rita Paczian? A New Zealand resident for more than two decades, this internationally highly sought-after conductor is regarded as one of Australasia’s most dynamic. She is also known to frequently include New Zealand premieres in her programs, contributing to the ever-growing musical spectrum in Aotearoa. It is of no surprise that for this final concert of Bach Musica’s 2016 season Rita Paczian has chosen two rarely performed Christmas Cantatas by Georg Philipp Telemann to be presented for the first time on New Zealand soil.
Bach Musica NZ will also be featuring a range of NZ’s finest soloists. Their impressive CVs include highlights such as playing for the Queen at a private dinner party, graduating with a BSc in Psychology and Mathematics, winning a RNZ Concert Listeners' Choice Award, and Soprano Madison Nonoa being the runner-up of this year’s Lexus Song Quest. She, counter-tenor Stephen Diaz, tenor Iain Tetley and baritone Jarvis Dams will be joined by Huw Dann on trumpet, and Alison Dunlop and Alison Jepson on oboe.
To round off the evening of music, Bach Musica NZ will be launching their 2017 ‘40th Anniversary’ Subscription Series, which will be available after the concert at the Early Bird rate, the ideal Christmas present for loved ones.
There might not be snow, candied apples or mulled wine, but there certainly will be the spirit of a traditional German Christmas in the music. And that is the true spirit of A GERMAN CHRISTMAS.
