Announcing Red Scare's 2017 Season

We're proud to announce a scintillating season of new and contemporary work, including two world premieres.

In March, Red Scare will be staging the New Zealand premiere of David Henry Hwang’s Yellow Face. A 2008 Pulitzer Prize finalist, Yellow Face is a deeply funny examination of race and identity in a ‘post-racial’ society. Directed by Cassandra Tse and featuring innovative design by Lucas Neal, James Ruscoe, Lisa Kiyomoto-Fink and Patrick Barnes, Yellow Face aims to explode our definitions of culture, identity and ethnicity.

For the winter season, Red Scare will present their original musical M’Lady. Written by Cassandra Tse and James Cain, and featuring new music by Wellington Theatre Award-nominated Michael Stebbings, M’Lady is a satirical all-singing,all-dancing look at men’s rights activism and pick up artistry. Performed by an all-female cast, M’Lady will invite you to take a look under the fedora of feminism’s greatest nemesis.

Finally, in November, Red Scare presents Under, a moving tale which explores the slipperiness of memory through one man’s story. Written by 2015 Playwrights B4 25 winner Cassandra Tse and performed by Chris Green, Under guarantees a touching night in the theatre by the playwright who brought you the Wellington Theatre Award-nominated Long Ago, Long Ago.
